SOUTHINGTON - A bullet casing was found in a Southington middle school on Monday, after it was accidentally dislodged from a student’s shoe.
Police Monday afternoon said it was later discovered that the DePaolo Middle School student had gone shooting with a family member over the weekend, and had been wearing shoes with a number of spent shell casings stuck in the treads.
Police were called to the school after a .22-caliber, spent casing was found in the Technical Education wing around 10:50 a.m. School officials were able to narrow down which students had been in this area in the morning.
Police said it was later discovered during the investigation that a student was wearing shoes with four other bullet casings lodged in the treading.
No further police action was taken or requested by school officials.
