SOUTHINGTON - State police arrested a Middlefield man at a Southington rest stop Thursday after finding him under the influence and in possession of drugs.

Edward Ortutay, 32, was taken into custody at about 7:41 a.m. at a rest stop off of I-84 eastbound.

State troopers were called to the rest area on the report of a distraught man walking around the parking lot. Police found Ortutay, who appeared like he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to state police.

He failed multiple field sobriety tests and was found with enough drugs for troopers to believe he intended to sell them, state police said. The type of drug was not disclosed.

Additionally, Ortutay had a warrant out for his arrest for aggravated assault charges.

Ortutay is facing charges of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, sale of a hallucinogen, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating under the influence and failure to keep narcotics in original container. He is being held on $50,000 bond, and is expected to be arraigned Friday in Bristol Superior Court.
