After seven years serving Southington, Town Manager Garry Brumback recalls his favorite memories and proudest moments before returning home.
This fall Brumback announced his plans to retire in January in order to be with his father in Florida. Once the final contract negotiations are completed, he will be working as City Manager for Treasure Island, Fla.
“I’m thrilled. The job is a wonderful opportunity for my wife and I. The city is a terrific city and it’s got plenty of opportunities to contribute,” Brumback said. “Secondarily, it’s where I’m from, so I’m actually able to go home and spend time with my father.”
He will serve as the chief of operations for the city, working with all of the departments that provide local government services.
While serving the Southington community, Brumback feels most proud of restoring trust between the community and town government, “coupled with making a dramatic impact on improving the infrastructure and going a long way to reducing the cost of energy using renewables.”
Beyond his work, Brumback also remembers getting involved in community events with fondness.
“I think my favorite memory is my first polar plunge with the YMCA. It was freezing, like 18 degrees,” said Brumback. “I’m a Florida boy so this is something I would have never imagined doing in my wildest dreams, but you get caught up in the moment and it was a lot of fun.
Town Attorney Mark Sciota will be taking the Town Manager position upon Brumback’s retirement.
