SOUTHINGTON - Police have charged a New Britain man in a local sexual assault.

Chauncey Ford, 20, was arrested Wednesday on charges of fourth-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor and providing a false statement.

According to police, the charges stem from an incident in July in which Ford allegedly had sexual contact with a minor.

During Ford’s arraignment Thursday in Bristol Superior Court, Jeffrey Lee, the prosecutor, said police have a strong case against Ford, as officers saw the incident in progress. Lee did not divulge any further details about the case. The 10-page arrest warrant has been ordered sealed by a judge.

Ford was issued a protective order on behalf of two juvenile individuals. The order bars him from contacting them, going to their home or coming within 100 yards of them.

Ford was ordered held on $100,000 bond. He is due back in court on Oct. 5, and has not entered a plea.
