Southington High math team makes state finals again

SOUTHINGTON - The Southington High School math team, qualified for the Connecticut State Association of Math Leagues competition held April 6 at E.O. Smith High School in Storrs.

This was the second straight year that the team qualified for the State meet. Southington was represented by the following students: Senior Michael Freeman; juniors Gina Calo, Ashley Kane, Joseph Martin and Donna McNeil; sophomores Rebecca Dorzens and Justin Fontano; and the team’s MVP, junior Amisha Paul.

The team has competed in the Capital Area Math League for over two decades, with over 30 students participating in six meets at high schools in the Hartford region every year. This year, the team took second place in the Einstein Division of the CAML.

The team is coached by Susan Hart, a math teacher at SHS.
