SOUTHINGTON - Wheeler Clinic’s project coordinator for parent support services, Syreeta Aidoo, will give a free workshop June 28 at Southington Public Library for parents of young children.

The workshop will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the meeting room of the library at 255 Main St. The program is intended to assist parents of children ranging in age from 2 to 10 years old.

Aidoo said that she will discuss a variety of topics and helpful positive parenting techniques.

“The program will cover what it means to be a parent, challenging behaviors that children exhibit and how to use positive language to improve behavior,” she said.

The strategies that will be shared are based on Wheeler Clinic’s “Triple P Positive Parenting Program”, which is funded by the Connecticut Department of Children and Families.

According to wheelerclinic.org, Wheeler’s Triple Positive Parenting program is a “10-week in home, evidence-based program that provides parents with the skills they need to be self-sufficient in their parenting and manage family issues without ongoing support. It helps parents to create a positive and safe home learning environment so that their children can develop emotional, behavioral and cognitive strengths. Based on the parents’ needs and goals, the practitioner uses the Triple P workbook to give parents simple and practical strategies to help them confidently manage their children’s behavior, prevent problems and develop and build strong, healthy family relationships.”

The workshop at Southington Public Library is co-sponsored by Southington Health Outreach Project and it is also coordinated by the Wheeler Clinic and funded by the Barnes Memorial Trust at the Main Street Community Foundation.
