SOUTHINGTON - Police are investigating four car fires overnight Sunday and into Monday as arsons.
According to police, all four incidents occurred at two apartment complexes on the east side of town. They all involved unoccupied, parked vehicles.
Two vehicles at a lot at 500 Pleasant St. and two more in a lot at 35 Darling St. had rags dipped in an accelerant and placed in the area of the gas cap before they were set on fire. In each instance, police said, the rag burned, but it did not ignite the vehicle or the gas tank.
Southington detectives are investigating the incidents with the fire marshal. Police said they do not have any suspects.
Police are asking anyone who sees suspicious activity around vehicles to immediately call 911 and report it. Additionally, anyone with information about the incidents or the person or persons responsible for the arsons has been asked to call police at 860-378-1600. Anonymous tips can be left at 860-276-1234.
