SOUTHINGTON - Library Director Sue Smayda invites people to come to the library on June 14 for an early-evening book discussion featuring non-alcoholic cocktails and light hors d'oeuvres.

Smayda will lead a discussion at 5:30 p.m. about the book “A Trip to the Beach: Living on Island Time in the Caribbean” by Madeline and Robert Blanchard.

This is the true story of a trip to the beach that never ends. It's about a husband and wife who escape civilization to build a small restaurant on an island paradise and discover that even paradise has its pitfalls. It's a story filled with calamities and comedy, culinary disasters and triumphs and indelible portraits of people who live and work on a sliver of beauty set in the Caribbean Sea.

The non-alcoholic cocktail “Safe Sex on the Beach” will be served.

The next Happy Hour Book Discussion will be July 19 at 5:30 p.m. and will focus on “A Girl Named Zippy” by Haven Kimmel. The non-alcoholic cocktail served that night will be a “Cranberry Cutie.”

Copies of the books are available at the Information Desk. Those who wish to call ahead to be sure that the books have arrived can call the library at 860-628-0947 ext. 5.
