SOUTHINGTON - A Bristol man has been accused of assaulting a woman at a Southington motel.

Jeremy Fortin, 38, Bristol, is facing charges of third-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree threatening, interfering with a 911 call and disorderly conduct.

According to the police report, Fortin’s girlfriend went to the police department Sunday and said she had been assaulted at Motel 6, 625 Queen St., at about 2: 30 a.m.

The woman told police the two had checked into the motel the night before and snorted cocaine together. While they were drinking beer together, the woman continued, Fortin continually asked her if she was cheating on him.

During the argument, according to the police report, Fortin grabbed the woman by the hair, dragged her off the bed and toward the bathroom. The woman then began running to different corners of the room to get away. He then grabbed her by the ankle and took her to the ground, she alleges.

According to the report, the girlfriend was punched in the rib cage and leg by Fortin. As the woman was crawling to the bathroom, she told police, Fortin pushed his sneaker against her throat. As he was doing this, she dug her nails into him. He stopped shortly thereafter and told the woman he would beat her if she went to the door, the report said.

The woman called the front desk of the motel for help, but Fortin, she alleges, hung up the phone. The front desk called back, and Fortin left the room shortly thereafter.

The girlfriend told police she has been abused by Fortin for the past 10 months, having left her with bruises, a black eye and possibly a separated shoulder.

While at the Southington Police Department, the victim said she was having a difficult time breathing from being struck in the rib cage. She refused an ambulance and took herself to the Hospital of Central Connecticut’s Bradley Memorial Campus.

Police called Fortin the day the woman reported the incident and left a message. They were then called by a bail bondsman who said Fortin had contacted him.

Fortin, of 826 Pine St., was later arrested. He is free on $25,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on July 6.
