PLYMOUTH – The Terryville Lions Country Fair returns this Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the 73rd year at the Terryville Fair Grounds, featuring fireworks, vendors galore and fun for the whole family.
The fair will be held from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Terryville Fair Grounds at 171 Town Hill Road.
Steve Daigle, president of the Terryville Lions Country Fair, said while the event was canceled last year the fairgrounds underwent a major renovation and spruce-up.
“We’re definitely excited to open up and have the public see the renovations,” Daigle said. “A lot of people who have come in the past probably wouldn’t recognize it. We removed a few structures and added a few things. We moved the ox ring to the back of the fairgrounds area and the top part of the fairgrounds is all for vendors. We created 90 new spots there.”
Vendors will include local artists and crafters, quilt makers, jam-makers as well as local businesses. Daigle said there will be a strong turnout this year, with more vendors than in 2019. He thanked the volunteers from the Lion’s Club and other local service organizations who make the fair possible each year.
“It’s a really great fair with a lot of diversity, great food, fun stuff to see and children’s activities,” Daigle said. “People look forward to it every year and we’re gearing up for our big 75th anniversary in two years. This weekend is going to be a great time for the whole family to come out and have fun, especially after everyone has been cooped up for so long.”
Opening ceremonies will be held at the flagpole at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Friday’s festivities will culminate with a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.
Some of the other highlights from this year’s fair include the return of racing pigs as well as oxen pulls and draft horse pulls. There will also be ATV and lawnmower racing on Friday night, a truck pull contest on Saturday and a demolition derby on Sunday.
There will also be a corn hole tournament on Saturday and Sunday as well as a large line-up of entertainment.
There will be performances by Clearview Band at 4:30 p.m. and Hazzard County Band at 8 p.m. on Friday.
Saturday will see The Remnants perform at 4 p.m. and Mammoth Jack Band take the stage at 8 p.m.
Sunday’s performers will include Old Tyme Fiddlers Band at 10:30 a.m., Reach for the Stars Academy of Dance at 1 p.m. and Southern Comfort Band at 3 p.m.
