The Plymouth Town Council unanimously approved the sale of Prospect Street School to Craig Bothroyd, principal for Prospect Ridge LLC.

Bothroyd plans to renovate the school, which was built in 1900 and abandoned in 2008, to create 50 rental units. There will be 24 units in the school itself and 26 townhouse-style units on the field nearby.

“We’re going to start working on a closing date now and we’ll have our attorneys get together,” Merchant said. “We’re just looking to tie up a few loose ends and I expect that we will close within the next month.”

Merchant said he is very much looking forward to seeing construction beginning on the site.

“It has been an eyesore for more than 10 years,” he said. “It’s time to get that area cleaned up. This will be a very good thing for the town.”

Additionally, Merchant said the council authorized the sale of “Lot 5” on Swicklas Court to Thomaston Site Works. They will be using the lot to construct their headquarters.

“I expect we will have a closing for that lot at the end of this week or early next week,” Merchant said.
