PLYMOUTH – First Baptist Church of Plymouth invites local children to enjoy a fun, outdoor “Back to School Rally” with snacks and activities Saturday, Sept. 19.

The free event will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Plymouth, located at 2-4 North St. All children are invited to attend and social distance safety protocols will be followed. Visitors to the church that day will be able to enjoy safe, fun outdoor games and they will also receive pre-packaged snacks.

Mary Rose, a church member who is organizing the event, said that this is a new event First Baptist Church is offering for the community this year.

“We’ve been in Plymouth for many years and we’re trying to find ways to reach out to the community,” she said. “There are so few young children in our church but we wanted to give them a nice rally day to enjoy.”

Rose said that activities at the Back to School Rally will include a modified game of musical chairs, using hula hoops, to maintain social distancing, and a parachute that children can play with after sanitizing their hands. There will also be a game where children can try to toss bean bags through a circle as well as “Simon Says” and other fun outdoor games.

Rose said that the rally will be a good opportunity for local children to socialize outside.

“The kids have been out of school for so long that it will be nice for them to have face-to-face contact with other children,” said Rose. “We hope you’ll come out and have some fun.”

Children that attend the “Back to School Rally” at First Baptist Church of Plymouth will have the option to each receive individually bagged snacks if parents want to keep things “contact free.” Snacks provided the day of the event will include sandwiches and chips with ice cream cups for dessert.
