Man drowns in Plymouth's Winfield Lake

A swimmer drowned in Winfield Lake in Plymouth Sunday.

Litchfield County dispatch received a 911 call from a woman who said there was a man swimming in the lake near Seymour Road and she could no longer see him and suspected he was underwater.

The Plymouth Police, Terryville Fire Department and Plymouth Volunteer Ambulance responded to the scene and the fire department performed a water rescue. After bringing the victim to shore, members of the fire department and Plymouth Volunteer Ambulance performed CPR on the victim before he was taken to Bristol Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim’s name will not be released until his family is notified and the initial investigation is finished.
