TERRYVILLE - On Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m., at the Lyceum Event Center, at 181 Main St., is hosting a free showing of “Saint Casimir’s Church: A Loving Documentary.”

The 90-minute film is about the history of the church, which has been around since the 1890s. Narrated by Father Ron Zepecki, whom filmmaker Bill DeHuff calls a “walking encyclopedia,” guests will learn about Polish and European history as well as the historical paintings and statues of the church.

“There’s a lot of good information in the film and a lot of good people recognized,” said DeHuff. “My favorite part of the film is where we interviewed a 94-year-old and a 96-year-old member of the church at a nursing home about their experiences and history with the church. It’s a very touching, feel-good story.”

For longtime St. Casimir Church member Debi Begin, she said that this church means a lot to her and looks forward to attending the premiere.

“I’ve been coming to this church since I was a child and it’s where I’ve raised my kids,” said Begin. “I think it’ll be an interesting film and we have such a beautiful church and a group of people who love our church.”

Two years ago, DeHuff, a Vietnam veteran and filmmaker, was asked by a friend of his at St. Casimir Church in Terryville to help create a documentary.

“Linda Kazmierski is a good friend of mine and she’s a member of the church,” said DeHuff. “She loves veterans and she made me a prayer shawl and I just knew I wanted to do something back for the church.”

DeHuff, who earned his masters in film from CBN University, then spent the next several years collecting interviews from people within the church and community and editing the footage.

All are welcome and there will be an open bar, punch and popcorn.
