PLYMOUTH - An 80-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence with a gun in his vehicle.

Daniel Morrone entered the pleas during a hearing Tuesday in Bristol Superior Court. He faces charges of operating under the influence, illegal possession of a weapon under the influence and failure to maintain lane.

According to police, Morrone was seen in the overnight hours of April 14 driving east on Main Street in an erratic manner. Police pulled him over and believe he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Morrone had a registered gun in the car, police said.

No injuries were reported.

On Tuesday, Morrone’s attorney mentioned the possibility of his client using two programs to address the charges. That route would wipe out any record of the arrest.

Morrone, who is free on $2,500 bond, is scheduled to appear in New Britain court on Sept. 6.
