PLYMOUTH - This fall Samantha Stone will be heading up to Bangor, Maine, to attend Husson University to study nursing.
As the student with the third highest GPA in Terryville High School’s Class of 2018, Stone will be the essayist at graduation.
She said she does not have a clear career goal yet, figuring she will figure it out as she gets deeper into the nursing program and does some internships.
The idea of going into medicine started early for her. “When I was smaller I always told my dad, I’m going to become a doctor and take care of you so when you get sick I can heal you and make you all better. No one else in my family was in medicine, so then as I got older I thought why not? We need to help people more often.”
Stone said the sciences are her favorite subjects. During her time at Terryville High School she took AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP English, and AP Statistics. She is also a member of Explorer Post 111 of the Plymouth Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and served as the vice president and the treasurer.
Some of her favorite moments in high school, she joked, were “all the projects, all the homework, staying up past midnight to get it all done.”
Actually, she enjoyed playing softball for three years, and also basketball for three years and a few weeks of her senior year until she got a concussion which took her out of the sport.
She also plays clarinet and bass clarinet in the band, is a member of the Art Club, and participated in the Debate Club for the one year it lasted when she was a sophomore year.
