PLYMOUTH - A Terryville man was arrested in the early morning hours Monday for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman.

Joseph Ouellette, 28, of 282 Main St., has been accused of pushing his girlfriend, causing her to fall backwards onto the kitchen floor, according to the police report. The victim is 27 weeks pregnant.

Police responded to the couple’s home shortly after midnight Monday, when the victim called 911. She told police that, after Ouellette pushed her down, he followed her when she ran upstairs and slapped her face, the report said.

The woman then ran outside and was waiting outside for police when they arrived. She told officers she didn’t want Ouellette arrested, and declined medical treatment.

Ouellette was in the home. He told officers he didn’t mean to strike his girlfriend, according to the report. Police asked him to elaborate, and he said he inadvertently struck her with his forearm, the report continued.

Ouellette was arrested and held overnight. He was arraigned Monday in Bristol Superior Court, where he was released on a promise to appear. He is due back in court on April 26.
