PLYMOUTH - Heavy rain on Friday brought some flooding to a few roads in town.

At about 2 p.m., town officials were called to the area of 96 Old Waterbury Road, where a stream running under a driveway became blocked and caused an overflow of water flowing down the road. A portion of the road was closed until crews using a backhoe could unblock the stream, which was caused by what was described as a chunk of ice the size of a “Volkswagon.”

Town officials also said an area of Beach Avenue in Terryville was flooded Friday, as it sits lower than surrounding streets.

Heavy rain is expected to continue throughout the day and into Saturday. That, with the combination of the higher than normal temperatures and melting snow, could cause flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service. A flood watch will remain in effect until Saturday at 1 p.m.
