ARF was founded in 1971 as a non-profit, non-destroy shelter for abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs and cats. It is 100 percent volunteer staffed.
For many years ARF was housed in a tiny building at 366 Main St., Terryville, until an electrical fire destroyed it in 2008. After years of intensive fundraising, ARF built a new 5,000-square-foot facility on the same spot and re-opened in 2012.
