PLAINVILLE – Jaida Vasquez cemented herself in Plainville girls basketball history Thursday night by scoring her 1000th career point in the Blue Devils’ 45-24 win over Avon.

Plainville completes its 12-game regular season with a 9-3 record and will see if they qualify to compete for a CCC Championship

Goodwin Tech 41, Ellis Tech 33: The Gladiators are on their way to the CTC Charter Oak Division championship game following a 12-point performance from Ava Hernandez.

Megan Lukaszewski added nine points and 10 rebounds for Goodwin Tech and made two three-pointers in the contest. Hernandez, Lukaszewski and Abneliz Alamo each made two shots from behind the arc in the game.

The Gladiators will face Windham Tech on March 23 in the CTC Charter Oak Division final with the winner facing the winner of the Nutmeg Division final for the CTC Championship

Plainville 55, Avon 54: The Blue Devils needed all 32 minutes to grind out their win over Avon on Thursday. Down one point with 14 seconds, TyShawn Johnson drove to the hoop and got fouled. He hit both free throws to put Plainville up by one and the Blue Devils stopped Avon’s Jack Hall from getting a shot off.

Dylan Hall was a crucial player for Plainville, guarding Jack Hall in the second half and holding him scoreless. Jack Hall finished with 11 while Will Soucier’s 22 led Avon. Omarion Miller posted 19 as Plainville’s high scorer and one of three players to score at least 10 points. He was joined by Alec Couture (17) and Johnson (10).

“Alec Couture, Omarion Miller and TyShawn Johnson carried the load offensively for us tonight,” head coach Scot Wenzel said. “We beat two very good teams this week in Avon and Farmington, two of the better teams in the area. Avon has one of the best players in the state in Jack Hall. Our guys stepped up to the challenge tonight. I’m proud of how our guys have stayed together and continue to play hard.”

Plainville finishes the regular season with a 3-7 record and will await seeding for the CCC Tournament.
