STAFF REPORT

BURLINGTON - Sophomore Kaylee Cahill erupted from long distance to lead the New Britain girls basketball team past Lewis Mills 49-37 for its fourth win of the season. Cahill drilled five three-pointers for all 15 of her points in the contest as her team’s leading scorer.

The Hurricanes trailed by one point at halftime due to 16 percent shooting from the field, but pushed through to hold a lead for most of the second half by making 53 percent of their shots in the third quarter. Senior Maya Slisz posted 14 points in the game, including two three-pointers and Junior Adrianna Faienza grabbed 12 rebounds.

New Britain will host Bristol Central for its second-to-last game of the regular season Monday at 5:30 p.m. The Hurricanes beat the Rams 42-29 earlier this season.

Terryville 34, Gilbert 28: The Kangaroos picked up their third win of the season thanks in part to a double-double from Zoe Zappone.

The junior scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Zappone also nearly had a triple-double, coming away with seven steals.

Terryville got a number of other strong performances on the glass as well. Tiffany Pires finished with 10 rebounds to go along with her six points and Taylor Barnett brought in 10 boards as well.

Gilbert did not have any players finish in double-figures in scoring.

BOYS ICE HOCKEY

E.O. Smith-Tolland 4, Rocky Hill-Plainville-Middletown-Haddam-Killingworth 2: The Terriers could not find enough offense in its Thursday loss to the Bucks.

They were already trailing 3-0 before junior Brody Davidson found the back of the net for the Terriers first goal of the day. Senior Colin Bishop’s third-period goal brought the game within one, but Braiden George added one more for the Bucks to keep them ahead.

The Terrier will return to the ice Monday for a home game against East Catholic at 3:50 p.m.
