PLAINVILLE - The Plainville boys soccer team showed once again why it is one of the best teams in the state, shortened season or not.
The Blue Devils were able to end their two-game losing skid Monday with a 5-1 win over Bristol Central, the first of back-to-back matches between the two teams.
“We had a good overall game,” Plainville head coach Tim Brown said. “We possessed well and finished our chances. Our defensive four-some, led by Avery Palmer and Tanner Pau, was outstanding.”
Plainville made up for scoring one goal over its previous two matches by putting five past Central goalkeeper Umar Malick. Senior Patrick Gryczewski led the scoring onslaught with two goals in his team’s third five-goal performance of the season.
Trevor Rau, Jordan Torres and Corey Rexinger-McConnell also scored for Plainville.
The Rams were heavily restricted on offense and held to merely three shots in the match while Plainville took 15 shots.
The two teams will meet again, this time at Bristol Central, on Wednesday.
Wolcott 1, St. Paul 0: A late penalty kick from Ella Vaughn was the decider in the Falcons’ third loss of the season. The match was the second close contest between the two squads this year as they finished in a draw Oct. 8.
St. Paul failed to score on more than once when given one-on-one chances against Wolcott’s goalkeeper. The Falcons will look to find their next win Wednesday at home against Torrington.
