Sports Roundup: Plainville girls basketball falls to New Britain in season opener

PLAINVILLE - The New Britain girls basketball team overcame a slow start to get its first victory under new head coach Marc Wesoly on Monday night, beating Plainville 63-52.

The Blue Devils led 27-19 at halftime, but the Hurricanes had taken the lead by the end of the third quarter.

New Britain was led by Gabriella Roy (16 points), Emani James (13 points, 13 rebounds), Tianna Sweeney (10 points, 20 rebounds), Inanna Wright (8 points), Maya Slisz (6 points) and Brianna Clarke (6 points).

For Plainville, Caitlin Barker had a game-high 27 points, while Isabel Lozefski scored eight points in the game, Jaida Vasquez had seven and Samantha Lozefski netted six.
