Football Roundup: Southington football gets back on track with win over Enfield

SOUTHINGTON - The Southington High football team improved to 7-1 for the season with a 45-8 victory over visiting Enfield (1-7) on Friday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Blue Knighs scored 24 points in the second on a Ryan Montalvo 37-yard run, a 9-yard scamper by Tanner LaRosa, a 52-yard pass from Will Barmore to Jimmy Ringrose and a 33-yard field goal from Evan Johanns.

After Enfield scored on a 62-yard interception return early in the third quarter, Southington went on to score its final 21 points in the period on a 15-yard pass from Barmore to Tim O’Shea, a 2-yard plunge by Barmore and a 1-yard push by LaRosa.

Montalvo had 97 yards rushing on 12 carries in the game, while Barmore was 15-for-24 passing for 221 yards and O’Shea had six receptions for 70 yards.

Maloney 41, Newington 10: The Indians led 7-0 after the first quarter on a 52-yard interception return by Robert Sanchez, but a 14-yard passing play and a 16-yard run and two-point conversion gave the Spartans a 15-7 lead by halftime.

Newington fell to 2-6, while Maloney improved to 7-1 for the season.

Seymour 49, St. Paul 12: After a 5-0 start, the Falcons were defeated at home for their third straight loss, falling to 5-3.

Plainville 20, Tolland 16: The Blue Devils improved to 4-4 for the season with their third straight victory, winning on the road.
