Sports Roundup: Hinton's two goals lead Bristol Central girls soccer to senior night win

BRISTOL - Bristol Central girls soccer saved its best all-around performance for senior night against Plainville.

Mia Hinton scored the first two goals for the Rams and Jenna Lowe put in the third goal for Bristol Central.

Selena Norton continued to showcase her playmaking ability with two assists and Ashley Macdonald also had an assist for Bristol Central.

On the defensive side of the ball, Sarah Guerin played well in front of keeper Aubrey Kelley.

Kelley finished with nine saves in goal.

With the win, the Rams move to 7-8 on the season and earned a spot in the state tournament.

Bristol Central will have the week to regroup for the rematch against Bristol Eastern.

The Lancers beat the Rams 5-2 earlier this season in the first matchup between the two in the Bristol city series.


St. Paul 3, Torrington 3: The Falcons were down 2-1 going into the half with the Red Raiders but couldn’t hold onto it as Torrington fought back in the second half.

St. Paul freshman Danny Bond scored the first half goal for the Falcons on an assist from Adam VanLinter.

Coming out of the half, VanLinter tied the game 2-2 before Torrington went back ahead 3-2.

Ethan Rembish made sure that St. Paul stayed in the contest with his tying goal assisted by Stefan Zwolinski.

The Falcons held onto the tie on senior night for the Red Raiders.

Matt Raymond and Jack Noli made big saves in net for St. Paul. The two split time, combining for 14 saves.

The Falcons move to 4-7-3 with the draw and will host Wolcott on Wednesday in senior night for St. Paul.


Bristol Eastern 3, Plainville 0: The Lancers came in against a winless Blue Devils team knowing that it must be on top of its game after Plainville took Bristol Central to five sets.

Bristol Eastern did just that and won in straight sets 25-10, 25-3, 25-6.

The Lancers received strong performances from Aliana Rivoira (12 assists, 8 aces), Olivia Beaudoin (6 kills), Zoe Lowe (7 kills, 5 aces) and Alex DiMattia (9 aces)

With the win, Bristol Eastern moves to 10-7 on the season.

Glastonbury will travel to take on the Lancers tonight at 6:30 p.m.


Terryville 19, Bristol Eastern 36: For the Kangaroos, Corey Picard (18:32), Chris Deforest (18:33), Colby Brown (18:39) and Conor Garrity (18:58) rounded out the top four.

Behind the top four for Terryville were four Bristol Eastern runners.

Gabriel Bartelome (19:06), Sean Sullivan (19:42), Ben Wadowski (19:45) and Mason Poirier (19:51) placed 5-8.

The Kangaroos move to 10-1 on the season with the win.


Bristol Eastern 17, Terryville 40: For the Lancers, Avery Braccia (21:39) led the way in first place.

Behind her were three other Bristol Eastern runners, Maggie Santacrose (24:14), Audrey Perry (24:18) and Sophia Andrade (24:21).

Jordan Conklin (24:28) and Sarah Evankoski (26:22) finished top two for the Kangaroos.

With the loss, Terryville drops to 3-7 on the season.
