PLAINVILLE – A Plainville man arrested in 2020 – who later pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography – has eluded prison time.

Matthew Yung, 32, of 108 Metacomet Road, faced sentencing last week in New Britain Superior Court, where a judge handed him a 10-year prison sentence and fully suspended the prison term.

Yung was also ordered to serve 10 years of probation – during which time the decade of suspended prison time will be hanging over his head if he were to violate any conditions.

The 32-year-old was sentenced after previously pleading guilty to one count of second-degree possession of child pornography. Under the terms of the plea deal, he has been ordered to verify his address every 90 days with the state’s Sex Offender Registry.

The deal comes after investigators in March 2020 searched Yung’s home and reported finding 95 child pornography videos and 30 images on two of his cell phones and his iPad. During the investigation, he told police in he prefers 9-year-olds, regardless of their gender, and that he has been downloading, and occasionally uploading, child pornography for the past five years, according to the arrest warrant.

Yung admitted to police he has saved videos and images with children as young as 4 years old engaged in sex acts, the warrant continued.

Plainville police on March 10, 2020, were given a tip from Homeland Security Investigations indicating an IP address in Plainville was sharing child pornography, the warrant said. Eight days later, Plainville police searched Yung’s home, seizing two cell phones and an iPad.

During the search, he agreed to speak with police.

At the time the search warrant was written, investigators said they had found 95 videos and 30 images of child pornography on the electronic devices. They noted they had not yet finished analyzing the devices.

Yung previously faced one count of first-degree possession of child pornography, but that charge was reduced under the terms of the plea bargain.
