PLAINVILLE – The Plainville Community Food Pantry is taking sign-ups for golfers and sponsors for the 2022 Nick Ruffini Memorial Golf Tournament, which will be held Sept. 28 at The Country Club of Farmington.

Event-day registration begins at 10 a.m. at the country club at 806 Farmington Ave., Farmington. The golf tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 11:15 a.m. Proceeds will support the Plainville Community Food Pantry.

The day will include lunch with beer, soda and water provided on the course and a lobster tail and steak dinner at 5 p.m. with a cash bar. The event will also include a driving range, giveaways, a 50/50 raffle, a live auction and prizes awarded for men’s and women’s golf groups.

Antonella Calabrese, a Board of Directors member for the Plainville Community Food Pantry, said that the golf tournament typically draws wide attendance and serves as a major fundraiser.

“Last year we raised over $30, 000,” she said. “It was great. There is a great need this year too. With food and other costs going up, it has been very difficult for people who have already been struggling. The money that we raise will go toward helping the Plainville Food Pantry purchase food, which is very important.”

The tournament has been held for more than 10 years in memory of Nick Ruffini, who was the founder of Northeast Produce. Calabrese said that Northeast produce continues to be a big supporter of the Plainville Food Pantry and the community at large.

The event itself, Calabrese said, is a time of great camaraderie, with many familiar faces returning year after year.

“Every year you see a lot of the same people and they really enjoy each other’s company,” she said.

Calabrese added that The Country Club of Farmington does a “beautiful job” hosting the event on the course.

Major sponsors for the tournament include Tower Energy, Thomaston Savings Bank and Northeast Produce, Inc. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available.

Calabrese encouraged people to register in advance.

Registration is $250 per golfer. Participants can sign-up as an individual or foursome. There is also an option to sign-up for just the dinner, which is $125.
