PLAINVILLE – Southington Developer Newport Realty plans to build senior housing at two sites in Plainville.
One site, at 265 Unionville Ave., has already been approved for the construction of 61 housing units. The “Willowbrook Estates” will have 61 condo units, with 39 of them located in Plainville and the rest located in Farmington. The condos will cost $359,900 and they will be age-restricted to residents 55 or older.
“They are detached units with two car garages and a single floor,” said Garrett Daigle, town planner. “Construction has started and the project will be broken into four phases. The first phase, which should complete early summer 2022, will see the construction of 13 units. They are doing the second phase around the same time, which will be another 13 units. People will be able to move into these units once the first phase is complete.”
The other project, at 180 S. Washington St., has not yet been approved. Newport Realty will be going before the Planning & Zoning on Jan. 11. Daigle said since this second proposal is still pending approval, a cost of the condos is not yet available.
“They want to build 15 units,” Daigle said. “They will be attached, townhouse units, with multiple levels. There will be up to four condos per building.”
Both sites formerly had a single home on the property which has since been demolished.
“The Unionville Ave. site was a farm decades ago, which has been overgrown for a long time,” he said.
Daigle said the town is pleased to see these projects moving forward, getting these properties back onto tax rolls.
“It is part of our plan of conservation and development to have more age-restricted housing,” he said. “This type of housing will allow people to downsize to more manageable home sizes, with single-level living. It will allow more people to stay in town and allow more people to come to town.”
