PLAINVILLE – After an 18-month hiatus due to the pandemic, The Plainville Choral Society is back and rehearsals are in full-swing for their annual holiday concert and a virtual carol sing-a-long to benefit the Plainville Food Pantry.

Publicity Coordinator for the Plainville Choral Society Eileen Glancy said that the group has brought music to Plainville and surrounding communities for more than 50 years.

"Attending the holiday concert has become an event which brings back memories for generations and creates new ones," she said. "The members are anxious to be able to perform again after 2 years."

This year, "Songs of Good Cheer: A concert and a Benefit", will include a holiday concert Friday, Dec. 10 and a virtual holiday carol sing-a-long Saturday, Dec. 11. Once times are confirmed, they will be posted on the Plainville Choral Society Website,

The concert will feature the group and soloists performing a variety of holiday music at the Congregational Church of Plainville at 130 West Main St. under the direction of Greg Wilfrid.

There will be a limited capacity in-person audience for the concert as well as an option for a livestream version.

In-person tickets will be $15 for in-person and must be purchased from a Plainville Choral Society member. There will be no tickets available at the door.

For livestream, the price will be $10 and payment can be made on line on the Plainville Choral Society website. Information will be available on the website about how to access the show.

While the Plainville Choral Society will be singing together in person, the virtual carol sing-a-long will be a fully virtual event for audiences. All virtual attendees will receive a digital song booklet so they can sing along with the group from the comfort of their own homes.

“One of our great joys as a group is audience sing-a-longs in our holiday concerts," said Music Director Greg Wilfrid. "Even though we are not able to do it in person, we would rather do it virtually, than not at all. Holiday music and a great cause to benefit – what’s not to love?”

During the virtual carol sing-a-long, The Plainville Choral Society will be accepting donations and splitting them with the Plainville Food Pantry. Donations will be able to be made directly on the Livestream.
