Pedestrian killed following car accident on East Street in Plainville

PLAINVILLE -- A pedestrian was killed early Wednesday during a car accident.

Police around 4:30 a.m. said East Street was closed from Townline to Shuttle Meadow Road because of the car versus pedestrian crash. The accident occurred in the area of Cianci Avenue. Motorists were asked to avoid the area while police conducted their investigation.

In the afternoon hours, police said the pedestrian had succumbed to his injuries. He has not been identified.

“We are in the process of locating the next of kin,” police Chief Eric Peterson said around 2:40 p.m.

No other injuries were reported.

As of about 7 a.m., police said East Street had reopened.

Peterson said the crash is still under investigation.

No further details were immediately released.
