PLAINVILLE – ESPN Sports Anchor Jay Harris will lead PARC’s 20th Annual Helen & Danny Coughlin Memorial Walk Oct. 9 at Norton Park.

The event is the first major fundraiser in 18 months for PARC, a non-profit organization that has been serving people with developmental disabilities and their families for more than 64 years.

Harris was invited by Frank Robinson Sr., who serves on the PARC Board of Directors and whose son Steven is a PARC member.

“Jay’s reputation as ESPN SportsCenter anchor and his achievements in broadcasting will bring a high level of exposure to the walk and PARC, according to event organizers,” said Robinson Sr.

Harris joined ESPN in 2003 as a SportsCenter anchor. He has also anchored a variety of other ESPN shows including Outside the Lines, NFL Live and Sports Saturday. He has more than 30 years of experience in television and radio news, and has received numerous broadcasting honors including being part of SportsCenter’s Sports Emmy-winning team in 2004 and 2005. Harris is also a recipient of a Silver World Medal from the New York Festivals and an EXCEL Award from the Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals.

The 20th Annual Helen & Danny Coughlin Memorial Walk has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 9 at Norton Park, with a rain date of Sunday, Oct. 10. Residents of Plainville and surrounding towns are invited to attend.

The race will start with registration at 9 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. and then the walk. The theme is “Moving Forward Together.”

“The Helen & Danny Coughlin Memorial Walk has always been one of the largest and most popular fundraisers and we’re optimistic that people will be eager to get involved in this event as sponsors, walkers or volunteers,” said Erica Donovan, PARC executive director.”

The walk will also have activities for children and special guests including entertainment by Valentine the Clown and DJ BBPro. There will also be refreshments and a chili cookoff. Non-perishable food items also will be collected for the Plainville Community Food Pantry.
