PLAINVILLE – The “Books and Bling” sale Sept. 15 through 18 at Plainville Public Library will incorporate a jewelry sale into the returning annual book sale.
Trish Tomlinson, library director, said that the Friends of the Plainville Public Library book sale was canceled last year due to the pandemic. Since then, the library has received a large number of book donations from people cleaning out their homes.
“There’s going to be a wide selection; this will be big,” said Tomlinson. “This is the first book sale we’ve had since before covid. The jewelry sale is new as well. It was an idea that we got from another Friends of the Library group. They said it was very successful there, so we’re trying it here.”
The book and jewelry sale will be held Wednesday, Sept. 15 and Thursday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library at 56 E. Main St.
Additionally, on Saturday, Sept. 18, people will be invited to bring bags from home to fill with books for $3 for the first bag and $1 for subsequent bags. Bags exceeding 14 by 16 inches will be charged extra and a limited number of bags will be available to purchase.
All proceeds from the sale fund library programs for adults, children, and teens. Throughout the summer, the library has offered outdoor programs for children. Now, the library is preparing for the return of indoor, in-person programs.
“This fall we’re hoping to have indoor programming across the board,” said Tomlinson. “We’re keeping an eye on protocols and we’re aiming to start in mid-September.”
Donations of books or jewelry in good condition may be dropped off at the library during regular business hours leading up to the sale. The Friends of the Plainville Public Library do not accept reference books, encyclopedias, textbooks, computer books, VHS, or cassettes.
Volunteers are needed to help sort donations and work the sale. Those interested can contact the Plainville Public Library at 860-793-1446, EXT. 4.
