PLAINVILLE - A New Britain man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly burglarizing a Plainville home, stealing a laptop.

Charles Michalak, 19, faces charges of third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespassing and fifth-degree larceny.

According to the police report, Michalak’s friend allowed him to reside in the home for about the past nine months, as he had nowhere else to go. During that time, other residents told police, they started to notice things going missing and asked the 19-year-old leave about two weeks ago.

One of the residents changed the locks and tried to change the electronic keypad that unlocks the front door, the report said.

On Wednesday, a resident noticed his laptop was missing. It was after this that it was discovered that the keypad code had not been changed.

According to the report, Michalak admitted to police that he went into the home, but he denied taking the laptop, which was valued around $700.

Michalak was held on $10,000 and was expected to be arraigned Thursday in New Britain Superior Court.
