PLAINVILLE - A Plainville man has been charged with stealing expensive car parts from a Bristol man’s SUV while performing engine work on the vehicle.

John Berarducci, 29, of 8 Duval Lane, allegedly took two catalytic converters from a 2009 Jeep Liberty while working on the SUV in June, according to the arrest warrant. He faces charges of third-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief and tampering with a motor vehicle.

According to the warrant, the Liberty owner, a Bristol resident, dropped his Jeep off at Berarducci’s home on March 30 for him to do some repair work to the engine. He got the vehicle back on June 30, having it towed to his residence.

The man told police he immediately noticed wires dangling from underneath his vehicle. He found both catalytic converters were gone, as well as the battery.

According to the warrant, the parts would cost $3,765 to replace.

Berarducci was arrested Tuesday. He is being held on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Thursday.
