PLAINVILLE - A local man has been accused of affixing a GPS tracking device to his wife’s car out of suspicions that she was being unfaithful.

Thomas Roche, 43, of 582 Camp St., faces charges of electronic stalking and disorderly conduct.

According to the warrant for Roche’s arrest, his wife went to police last Tuesday and said her husband had put a “Spy Tec” GPS tracker on her vehicle. She added that she had told him in November she no longer wanted to be with him, although the two have still lived together since then. The woman also said she planned to file for divorce soon, and that she has been seeing someone else.

According to the warrant, the complainant said she felt as though she was being followed or tracked before finding the GPS device. She said she believes Roche put the device on her car because she had admitted to seeing someone else. She also believes Roche hired a private investigator to follow her, as she noticed a suspicious vehicle pull into a driveway where she was while in Woodbury, the warrant said. Another person, she said, was contacted by someone who claimed to be an investigator asking about the complainant.

The complainant showed police text messages in which Roche was asking for his “property” back, according to the warrant. She said he was referring to the GPS device.

The woman also said she is afraid Roche will retaliate against her if she filed for divorce or had him arrested.

The warrant does not indicate whether police sought to speak with Roche before he was arrested. He was charged over the weekend and released on $10,000 bond. Roche is scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on April 3 and has been ordered not to contact the complainant.
