PLAINVILLE - A local man arrested Thursday has been charged for allegedly sexually assaulting a preteen girl.

Karlos Rivera, 45, of 14 East Main St., faces charges of fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

According to Bristol Superior Court officials, the victim is a 12-year-old girl who is known to Rivera. The allegations stem from an incident on May 6. Court officials and police declined to release further details about the case, as the arrest warrant has been ordered sealed by a judge.

On Friday in court, the victim was appointed a guardian ad litem - an attorney contracted by the court to look out for the young girl’s best interests in whatever disposition arises out of the case. Rivera was not present for the hearing.

Rivera is being held on $15,000 bond. He has not entered a plea. He is due back in court on July 10.
