PLAINVILLE – The Plainville Lions Club is bringing breakfast to Our Lady of Mercy Parish March 25.
The Plainville Lions Club’s Pancake Breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the church at 19 South Canal St. Held every six months, the breakfast offers people a chance to enjoy pancakes and French toast with real maple syrup along with sausage, coffee, milk and tea. There will also be door prizes, raffles, an arts and crafts and coloring activity table for children, chair massages and entertainment by Valentine the Clown.
“She’s very entertaining for both kids and adults,” said Brian Lavigne, president of the Plainville Lions Club. “She specializes in balloons and face painting.”
Lavigne said that the breakfast has been held for many years, possibly since the 1970s, and that representatives from the Aunt Jemima company may have shown up the first year.
“It used to be held at the high school and used to be a lot bigger, but we still draw about 200 kids and their families each time,” he said. “We recently added French toast, including plain and cinnamon raisin, and also strawberries for toppings.”
Proceeds from the breakfast, Lavigne said, will go back to the community in various ways.
“Whatever money is left over will go to benefit the Plainville Community Food Pantry or the vision screenings that the Lion’s Club organizes throughout the year,” he said.
Lion’s Club volunteers will prepare the food and volunteers from Plainville High School clubs and other youth organizations will help with setting the tables and cleanup.
“Come down and have a fun time with family and friends,” said Lavigne.
Admission is $6 per person or free for children younger than 6 years old.
