PLAINVILLE – Dr. Izaz Khan of the newly opened IKON Dental Group doesn't want his patients to feel like just another number and hopes that his office will be a less scary, more home-like place where patients can improve their dental health.
Khan, a native of New Britain said that by opening up his first dental practice in the Central Connecticut region he hopes to give back to the community that raised him. His office, located at 58 W. Main St., Suite 1, offers preventative, restorative and cosmetic treatments.
One of the first things that patients will see when they step through the doors is a home-like lobby and decor.
"A lot of people feel like they're just another number when they go to the dentist, but I want to create an environment that provides a comfortable and educational experience," said Khan. "It's what dentistry should be."
Khan said that he first became a dentist because having good oral health is a sign of good overall health. He said it is "awesome" to have his own dental office in the building, which was formerly used by Nutmeg TV.
"I liked that Plainville advertises that it is business friendly right on the sign that you see as you drive into town," said Khan. "Everyone at the town has been very helpful with inspections and moving the process along."
The office will also feature the latest, high-tech equipment such as 4K Smart TVs that will allow patients to see inside of their mouths and portable X-ray machines. Patients can also have the option of getting comfortable with pillows and blankets.
Although Khan is currently a sole practitioner, the "group" in IKON Dental Group comes from the fact that he plans to eventually bring in specialists to work out of the office as it grows and expands.
"I look forward to building relationships with the community over the next 20 or 30 years of my career," said Khan, who thanked God and his family for getting him to this point in his life.
Plainville Chamber President Jeff DiCosimo said that IKON dental will be a "great asset" to the town of Plainville.
"I like what I see so far," he said. "The colors are soothing and the chairs are nice and big."
DiCosimo, along with Plainville Director of Planning and Economic Development Mark Devoe and Tim Stewart, president of the New Britain Chamber of Commerce, joined Khan's family members in a celebratory ribbon cutting.
IKON Dental is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
