PLAINVILLE - Mardi Gras comes early when the Plainville Food Pantry hosts their 22nd Annual “Moonlight Masquerade,” at the Aqua Turf Club.

The dinner-dance will be held from 6:30 p.m. to midnight on Jan. 27. It will feature a family-style dinner, open bar and entertainment by a DJ and a photo booth. There will also be 17 raffle baskets that people can win. People can come either in casual attire or Mardi Gras outfits.

Susie Woerz, executive director of the Plainville Food Pantry, said that this event is one of the food pantry’s four major fundraisers. In past years, it has brought in $5,000 to $20,000 each year for the food pantry.

“Whatever we end up raising is a huge help for our budget,” said Woerz. “Last year we had 250 people and this year we are pushing hard for a full house. We currently have five sponsors, but we would love to have more.”

People can sign up as a purple bead sponsor for $50, a green bead sponsor for $100, a gold bead sponsor for $250, a feathered mask sponsor for $500 and a Bourbon Street, New Orleans level sponsor for $1,000. Sponsors will be displayed on a board during the event.

To go along with the event’s Mardi Gras theme, a feathered mask which lights up with flashing LED lights will be placed on each table.

“It’s really going to be a fun time,” said Woerz. “A lot of people have told us that it is like a Plainville reunion - they are able to catch up with people that they haven’t seen all year and mingle. It’s a real nice night out and between the dinner, open bar and awesome raffle prizes you definitely get your money’s worth. This event is so popular that we’ll begin planning for next year this summer.”

Woerz encouraged people to purchase tickets soon as 460 of the 500 available have already sold.

“We only have five tables of ten left,” said Woerz.

Tickets are $75 per person.
