PLAINVILLE - A local man facing a number of charges - including of sexual assault - stemming from an inappropriate relationship with a teenager could avail himself to a plea bargain.
Spencer Roy, 23, of 25 Forest St., was granted a continuance in Bristol Superior Court on Tuesday to mull over a deal offered by state prosecutors.
“We’ve made an offer,” said Paul Rotiroti, the prosecutor. “It may lead to an agreement.”
Roy has been given until Oct. 3 to consider the plea bargain - the terms of which were not put on the record. Rotiroti said the deal has been discussed at length with the complainant’s family. He did not give any indication as to their feelings on it.
Roy, who is being held on $130,000 bond, was first arrested Nov. 1 on a felony charge of illegal sexual contact with a victim under 16 years old. That case allegedly involved inappropriate contact with a 15-year-old girl, according to police.
Roy was charged again on Jan. 17, this time for violation of a protective order and first-degree violating conditions of release. He was then arrested Feb. 7 on another count of violation of a protective order. The order had been issued after his November arrest and barred him from contacting the complainant.
According to the arrest warrant in that case, Roy had allegedly been trying to contact the teen through an intermediary between Jan. 23 and 30. Police said he had been messaging someone through social media, asking her to tell the teen he still loves her and to ask if she still loves him.
During the messaging conversation, the warrant said, Roy allegedly referenced driving to the 15-year-old’s workplace and watching her leave for the day.
Roy was then arrested again on May 9 and charged with four counts of second-degree sexual assault of a minor, three counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of providing a false statement.
During a previous court hearing, Roy’s attorney, Richard Goodine, said the most recent charges stem from new information that had come to light. The accusations, he said, allegedly happened during the same time period in which Roy has been accused of having inappropriate contact with the 15-year-old.
Further information from the victim is what ultimately led to the most recent charges being filed.
The arrest warrants in some of Roy’s cases were ordered sealed after his arrests.
