Planning for annual Pumpkinfest begins

SOUTHINGTON - The first planning meeting for this year’s Pumpkinfest will be held Sept. 14 at Central Café.

The planning will be held at 6 p.m., at the banquet room of Central Café, at 24 Whiting St., and all are invited to attend. The festival’s first year, which was organized by Kris Dargenio, drew 2,000 people to downtown. It also raised $4,500 for the Plainville Community Fund, monies which are then reinvested in the community. Last year, the festival was an even bigger hit, collecting $6,000 for the fund.

“Everyone in town is still buzzing about last year’s fabulous event,” said Dargenio on the event’s Facebook page. “Although we are very fortunate to have the support of our town, local businesses and a bunch of wonderful volunteers to help put this event on, there are always those expenses that need to be paid to make the event safe and comfortable for everyone. And, not to mention, we also want to make a little money to donate to the Plainville Community Fund, which does so much for charitable projects and programs in our community to help enhance the lives of our residents.”

The event has four levels of sponsorship and all sponsors will have their names or organization’s name carved into Jack O’Lanterns on a pumpkin tower.

“The Great Pumpkin” Sponsor - $1,000 or more, receives premier placement on the pumpkin tower, their logo on the cover of the event book, a full page ad in the ad book and a logo/link on all social media for the event.

 “Pumpkin Patch” Sponsor - $750, receives a pumpkin on the pumpkin tower, a half-page ad in the ad book and their logo on social media.

“Jack ‘O Lantern” Sponsor - $500, receives a pumpkin on the pumpkin tower, a quarter page ad in the ad book and their logo on social media.

“Pumpkin Pie Sponsor” - $250, receives a pumpkin on the pumpkin tower, their name in the ad book and logo on the website.

The third annual festival itself will be held, rain or shine, Oct. 21 from 4 to 9 p.m., downtown from the Plainville Fire Station to Plainville Public Library. The festival will be free to enter, but donations are welcome.
