PLAINVILLE - A local woman is in critical condition after the car she was driving smashed into a tree early Thursday.

According to police, Jessica Zommer, of 16A Johnson Ave., was taken to Hartford Hospital after the accident, which occurred at 12:12 a.m. on her street. A juvenile, who was also in the car, was taken to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, in Hartford, for what appeared to be minor injuries.

Life Star was initially called to the scene, but was cancelled shortly thereafter.

Police Thursday afternoon said they are still investigating what circumstances led to the 2001 Honda Civic, which Zommer was driving, crashing into a tree. Anyone with information has been asked to call Officer Mark Kominske at 860-747-1616.

No further details about the accident were released Thursday.
