PLAINVILLE - Organizers of the 6th annual Plainville Farmer’s Market, which will run June 30 through Sept. 15, are currently looking for volunteers to help run the event and local businesses to man tables.
“You will experience the best in fresh and local produce - picked that day and brought straight to the market," said Lena Pietri, organizer of the farmer's market.
Pietri said that vendors currently signed-up for this year will include the Skyscraper Sandwich Truck, which will be at the Farmer’s Market June 30, July 14, Aug. 25 and Sept. 8 and 15, George Hall Farm, selling organic produce, Eaglewood Farm selling humanely raised meat and eggs, Killam and Bassette Farmstead, selling conventional produce, Ridge Runner Soap Co. selling natural soaps, personal care items and locally made maple syrup and honey.
The “Market Tent” will be selling Italian bread from Mangiafico’s Bakery and they will also have reusable market bags for sale to support the Plainville High School scholarship program and free recipes focusing on using the local and in-season produce from farmers.
“I think people enjoy the fresh and local produce, eggs and meats and a chance to meet and speak with the farmers,” said Pietri. “Our volunteer, Pam, brings her bag of juggling props and teaches young and old how to juggle. This year, on the highlighted dates, we encourage patrons to lay out a blanket and enjoy a picnic dinner from the Skyscraper Sandwich Truck.”
Pietri encouraged residents to come, check out the market and meet local vendors and farmers.
Pietri said that she is looking for volunteers to help set up, greet patrons, share special skills and talents and work with the farmers at their tents as needed. She is also encouraging local businesses to set up VIP tents and tables.
The market will be open on Fridays from 3 to 6 p.m. at the green on the west side of Plainville High School at 47 Robert Holcomb Way. Parking will be available on Robert Holcomb Way and in the school parking lot. Vendors will be set up on the grass area along the parking lot.
Those interested in volunteering or participating as a business can email Pietri at email@example.com.
Regular updates, including weekly produce, VIPs and special events will be posted on the Plainville Farmer’s Market’s Facebook page, facebook.com/farmersmarketofplainville.
