Irene Matava Bachman

Irene Matava Bachman, 92, was born on Dec. 7, 1929 in Unionville. She passed away on Aug. 16, 2022 in Port Orange, FL. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Paul J. Matava and Maria Valigursky Matava, her husband, Lawrence (Joe Bach; Peach) Bachman, and by her siblings, Robert, Suzanne, Rosalie, Elizabeth, Tom, Edward, Mary and Margaret. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Costas) Liakopoulos, grandson, David (Wethersfield), brother, Paul (Jerry) Matava (Burlington); many nieces, nephews and friends.

Irene was married in 1950, and traveled to many places around the world. She was a hard worker and excelled in everything she did, including, knitting, skiing, golf, volunteer work at church and the VFW. She was also a Brownie leader and the Co-Director of the Forestville Drum Corps. Irene was a communicant of the Church of St. Matthew in Forestville, and at of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange, Florida. Irene retired from Pratt & Whitney in Southington as General Supervisor of Overhaul & Repair Operations. She moved to Florida in 2001.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday Sept. 16, 2022 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 145 Main Street, Unionville, CT 06085. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, 644 Huckleberry Hill Road, Avon, CT 06001. Condolences may be shared with the family at .
