Arlene Jeanette Pappas passed from this world on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022. Arlene was born to Bernard and Lucy Stasulewicz in New Britain. Shortly after graduating from New Britain High School, she happily accepted her role as wife, mother, and eventually, a grandmother. Eager to provide for her family, she held a number of positions of employment, but she found true purpose in the medical field, specifically hospice and palliative care, assisting the staff with complex patient needs.
An avid crafter, she dazzled her friends and family with her artistic flare, most memorably love knots, eucalyptus wreaths, Christmas ornaments, angels for school craft fairs, and Halloween costumes. She appreciated a perimeter of lavish perennials and shared her love of these flowers and plants with her children and grandchildren.
A good cook, she provided her family with home cooked meals and whipped up their favorites: French toast casserole, scalloped potatoes, Dutch apple and pumpkin pies, turnips, ribs, and of course, Southington coffee. She enjoyed a life-long passion for animals, welcoming numerous strays into her family, most memorably Maggie and Rosie. But her true legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, and the many lives she touched.
She leaves to mourn her passing; caretaker Amybeth (Ryan) Shorette; Kevin (Darlene) Schmarr, Eric (Nikki) Schmarr, and their father Herman Schmarr, Alyson (Bill) Berrigan, Jilyan (Joel) Robinson and their father James Pappas; grandchildren, Kailey, Evan, and Tyler Schmarr, Nathan and Makenzie Shorette, Tanner and Caleb James Schmarr, and Brycen James Robinson, first cousins Brian and his late wife Joan Sledzik, David (Susan) Sledzik, and their children Ryan and Kayla.
At Arlene's request, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Connecticut Humane Society or Camp Horizons. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit Arlene's tribute page at www.OBrien-FuneralHome.com .
