Esmonde J. Phelan

Esmonde J. Phelan, Jr., 81 a lifelong resident of Bristol, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018.

He was born on June 16, 1937, in Bristol, the son of the late Esmonde and Florence Phelan. Esmonde was active in local politics, serving as chairman of the Democratic Party and served as the Bristol Tax Collector for 31 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Bristol Elks Lodge 1010 and an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

He is survived by his son, John Phelan of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and his longtime friend, Carolyn Yacawych of Bristol.

He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy “Dot” Phelan.
