George A. Sumner, 88, of Burtonsville, Md., died on April 6, 2018, in Burtonsville. He was born on November 28, 1929, in Bristol, Conn., the son of George W.A. Sumner and Lucy Vecchione Sumner.

Educated in local schools- St. Anne’s, Sarah E. Reynolds and Bristol Technical High School, after which he entered the U.S. Army and did a tour of duty in Korea.

Upon leaving the Army, he entered New England Technical School and then went onto the University of Bridgeport, where he obtained a degree in electrical engineering. He then went on to work for the U.S. Army for over 28 years.

He was predeceased by his parents, his son, Jeffery Sumner, his sisters, Gussie and Nancy; his brothers, Felix, Francis, Henry and Charles.

He is survived by his daughter, Suzannah Sumner and his son, James Sumner of the United Kingdom; sisters, Mary Fox of Plainville, Conn., and Francis Yandow of Ile le Moite, Vt., and his brother, John A. Sumner of Bristol, Conn., and many neices and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
