James White Richards, 86, of Lake Placid, Fla., went to be with his Lord on Friday morning, Dec. 15, 2017, at the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans House in Port Charlotte, Fla.
James was the son of Marion White and Ernest Richards and was born on Feb. 7, 1931 in Bristol, Conn. James served his country with honors in the U.S. Army during Korea. After serving his country, James went to work at the local General Electric factory, where he held several positions until retirement with 35 years of service, in Plainville, Conn.
James was known for growing his gladiolas, for which he had won ribbons both in Terryville and Bristol, Conn. When he moved to Bristol, people would go by his house and dig up the flower bulbs and plant them in their gardens. James also had a passion for woodworking and could make most anything, especially wooden toys. He also enjoyed working in his garden and enjoyed making things with Legos. He loved to be with his family and friends. James was of the Christian faith. He was a member of the American Legion Placid Post 25 in Lake Placid and was involved with several other organizations in Maine.
James is preceded in death by both his parents; a son, David Alan Richards; and a sister, Evelyn King. He is survived by his loving children, Deborah Mcleod (Stanley) and Norma Jean Beliveau (Jim); several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate James’ life will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, with the VFW Post 4300 Honor Guard presenting military honors at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W.
