Richard P. Reilly, 89, died peacefully at home in Bristol on Nov. 25.

Born Nov. 12, 1928, in Boston, Mass., Richard graduated from Dorchester High School for Boys, served in the U.S. Navy and later earned a degree at Tunxis Community College. Richard married Kathryn Whall in 1954. They moved their family to Bristol when Richard accepted a regional sales position with Del Monte where he worked for 22 years. Then he embarked on a second career, working in various capacities at Bristol Hospital for many years.

Over the years, Richard performed in Bristol’s Civic Theater, worked with B & S Auctions, participated in Toastmasters, the Zbikowski Post and volunteered with RSVP. He had a positive, creative nature and a passion for travel, especially cruising.

He is survived by his children, Margaret Pealer, Louise Iles, Paul (Karen) Reilly and Clare Reilly; grandchildren, Becky (Davy) Tyre, Dan Iles, Scott (Mallory) Iles, Joseph and Julia Reilly, and Kyle Laupus; and great-grandson Ronan Iles.

One of seven children, he is also survived by his brother, Stephen (Carol) Reilly, sister, Kathleen Reilly, several in-laws, and many nieces and nephews. His wife, Kate; brothers, Robert, William, Gerald and David; sons-in-law, Steven Iles and Jeffry Laupus; and grandson, Clayton Laupus preceded him in death.

A celebration of Richard’s life will take place on Dec. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Nuchie’s Restaurant, 164 Central St., Forestville, CT. Family and friends will share remembrances at 12:30 p.m. and receive guests before and after.
