Melvin D. Grant, 79, of Bristol died Friday, Nov. 10, at home surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of Helen (Stoodley) Grant for 55 years. He was born in Waterville, Maine on Feb. 12, 1938, the son of the late Clifford and Phyllis (Mithcell)Grant.

Melvin worked for the city of Bristol’s water department for many years, retiring in 2002. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan but his greatest joy was his family.

Besides his wife Helen, he is survived by three sons, Douglas and his wife, Melody, Paul and his wife, Carla, Michael and his wife, Ginger, all of Bristol; one daughter, Melissa Grant of Winsted; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Estes of Bristol and Linda Patridge of North Anson, Maine; a brother, David Grant, and his wife, Wilda, of Norridgewalk, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Grant and Mary Garcia, and one brother, Wallace Grant.

There will be no calling hours and the burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to thank Bristol Hospital ICU, Bristol Hospital Home Care & Hospice and Dr. Margarita Reyes for the loving care they provided.
